Nimbus got its start when Camilla Opperman decided to launch her own food brand, but was limited by the lack of flexible, affordable kitchen space available nearby. Recognizing this gap in the industry, Opperman joined forces with Samantha Slager in order to develop a solution to her problem. In 2021, the pair opened Nimbus Kitchen in New York’s Lower East side. Their innovative solution combines shared commercial kitchen and community-driven retail spaces. It operates with the mission to, “empower food businesses to grow and thrive through elevated, flexible, and affordable kitchen spaces without losing the spirit of hospitality.” Since then, Nimbus Kitchen has provided affordable kitchen space to support over 100 small businesses in the community, the majority of which are female and minority-owned. Camilla and Samantha are excited to grow that number every day.
Looking Ahead…
As one of the few premium kitchens in Manhattan, Nimbus quickly recognized the unprecedented demand for kitchen space in the Lower East Side that scaled beyond their singular location. They’ve decided to open a second flagship facility in Downtown Brooklyn in order to accommodate more businesses. This space will feature a virtual food hall, a partnership with DoorDash, premium event space for pop-ups, food experiences, and more!
The team at Nimbus loves watching their members grow and thrive within a competitive and saturated market. They look forward to more opportunities to expand on this as they continue to develop.
Words of advice from Nimbus Kitchen…
“Work with people who are just as excited about the product as you are. It really takes a community of people to build something like Nimbus, and surrounding yourself with passionate, inspired individuals is the key to building something meaningful.”
