The Food Corridor Features
Like the rise in co-working spaces, I predict a rise in “co-cooking” community-based commercial kitchen spaces. Paying a monthly membership fee to access a commercial kitchen that covers cleaning, water, waste, electricity and equipment repairs definitely takes a lot of stress out of the mix for food producers.

Change in the works
This month we were surprised to hear the news that Pilotworks, a company opening shared use kitchens across the country, is closing. With a new CEO in place, they seem to be aiming to simplify their model and focus on more urban markets. We will be watching this one closely.

Michigan space focuses on manufacturing
The redevelopment of the former Muskegon farmers market in Michigan caught our eye. Sights are set on turning the 100,000- to 120,000-square-foot facility into food research and manufacturing facility. With a $5-$7 million price tag, we are eager to see what emerges.

CommonWealth Kitchen Director gets real
We love this video put out by our friends at The Wallace Center. Jen Faigel (CommonWealth Kitchen) is a true leader in the shared kitchen community and her candid interview focuses on the real economic drivers that food entrepreneurship can bring to communities.

Turning hope into reality
Lisa Raiola is another pioneer in the share kitchen community. Her vision led to the opening of Hope & Main, one of the country’s premier culinary incubators. We toured the beautifully renovated schoolhouse in Warren, Rhode Island, during our 2016 Food Incubator Tour. Raiola’s story is one to enjoy and we are thrilled that Forbes thought so too.

Annex (noun) – to provide space additional space
Haden Smith is writing his own story with a redevelopment project in a Birmingham, Alabama. The Annex Culinary Incubator held its soft opening in July, lowering the barrier to entry for food entrepreneurs so they can grow their own food businesses.
